It has been said that once you allow yourself to hear a negative thought it opens up an endless stream of negative thoughts. Your world is bombarded and bound by the downward spiral of negative thinking. Perhaps I shouldn’t have started this paragraph with a negative thought!
Likewise if you allow yourself to hear a positive thought it opens up the opportunity to repeat to one self a whole series of positive thoughts and ideas. Ideas that is, that lead to action and a transformed life.
How often do you start the day with a negative thought about yourself, your life, your family, your job, your expectations?
Start with a negative thought and you will with seamless ease, end with negative results. Norman Vincent Peale wrote that ‘ The person who sends out positive thoughts activates the world around him positively and draws back to himself positive results.’ Everyone knows this is true but we all struggle to believe it.
It is written that David, a young, petite, shepherd boy was able to fell a giant of a man that kept an entire army paralyzed and unable to fight. The giant, had nothing but negative comments for his opponents. The negative comments paralyzed an entire army of elite fighters. Now that is the power of negative thoughts cast far and wide!
David on the other hand, never heard the negative words. He blocked them out with a different way of thinking and speaking and living. David surrounded himself with a world view anchored in positive thoughts and ideas and opportunity. How the world would change if that was the experience of you and me!
There is a parable of a highly successful and wealthy landowner who loans wealth to his staff. He asks them to go and make the wealth grow. No doubt these three guys were understudies who had learned from the Landowner’s words, ideas and example as well as from his success. 'Hearing' though cannot be equated with belief that you too can do it by following the same system of ideas. Negative thoughts paralyze us into inaction and disbelief.
As the parable goes one staff member did nothing with the wealth. His thoughts were bounded by self-induced fear. He eventually gave back the money he received. No doubt his mind held onto that old quote: ‘I am not concerned about the return on my investment. I am concerned about the return of my investment.’ Play it with fear.
The other two members of the Landowner’s staff went forward and found ways to grow the investment. They received their appropriate rewards.
Life is filled with endless opportunity. It is possible to create positive results and transform life obstacles into opportunities using creative, positive energy and force.
This does not imply ‘ease’ of result or action. Positive action and opportunity does require a different way of thinking and living. In other words, your tomorrow should not be lived the same as today as each day surfaces different life opportunities. To quote Norman Vincent Peale, ‘There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. That little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative'.
